DILLON MOLTZ WINS 31ST NH GOVERNOR'S CUP

A stout 29-car field kicked off the 2017 American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model Stock Car Championship schedule Sunday at Lee USA Speedway in New Hampshire. The race, originally scheduled for April 9th, had been postponed due to weather.

The 31st running of the Annual New Hampshire Governor’s Cup, a 150-lap race, was won by Waterford, CT driver Dillon Moltz.  He was joined on the podium by a pair of Quebec drivers: Alex Labbé of Victoriaville and Jonathan Bouvrette of Blainville.  The defending race winner, Scott Payea (Colchester, VT) and 2017 ACT Rookie contender Jason Corliss (Barre, VT), rounded out the top-5.

LEE USA OPENS ACT'S 2017 SEASON
The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) is set to open its 26th season of ACT Late Model racing, and its 34th season of late model racing at Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, April 23 with the annual New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150, which was postponed due to weather from its originally scheduled early April date.  As in years past, the 2017 opener will give teams and fans a preview of competitors to watch during the coming race season.

DRIVER AND OWNER MEETING CONFIRMS 2017 SERIE ACT SEASON VERY PROMISING
The Managing Director responsible for the Quebec auto racing association for asphalt stock car championship Late Models, Série ACT, confirmed he was very happy with the meeting at Trois-Rivières this past weekend.

Marc Patrick Roy, the Managing Director for Série ACT, who was present in Trois-Rivières for the meeting, declared that the participation at the meeting went way beyond his expectations.  “The 37 people representing 22 teams in attendance, is beyond our initial expectations.  Add to those present 6 other teams who had informed us of their absence, ahead of time, and I can confirm, beyond any doubt, that the competitors have a huge interest in our races and in the continued presence of the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) sanction in Quebec.”

CORLISS, LINARDY POST FIRST OFFICIAL ACT FULL SEASON ENTRIES

Barre, VT’s Jason Corliss and Somerville, MA’s Jim Linardy have filed the first official full season entries for the American Canadian Tour’s (ACT’s) 2017 season.  The 10-race ACT Late Model Tour Championship will kick off on Sunday, April 9 with the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway.

Corliss hopes to carry forward his late-season momentum, after finishing as runner-up in the 2016 Vermont Milk Bowl at Thunder Road in October.  Always a quiet, steady competitor, Corliss cut his racing teeth at Thunder Road, capturing the Street Stock title early in his career, moving through the Tiger Sportsman division, and eventually on to the ACT Late Models.  With support of owner Chris Burnett and Burnett Scrap Metals, the #66VT team is setting their sights on top of the ACT standings in 2017.

CURLEY'S CORNER - NOVEMBER 2016

Happy Holidays!  It has been a while since I have written a Curley’s Corner to the ACT competitors and various interested people. There are lots of “off-season” rumors floating around, so I thought this would be a good time to let everyone know what is planned following the 2016 season.

HEALTH

First, my health has remained pretty consistent since last March, which was my last stay in the hospital. My condition is progressive, so it will continually deteriorate, but reality tells us that happens eventually to all of us! After going back to the control tower at Thunder Road during August and September this past summer, health-wise things seemed to have stabilized.  Any excessive exertion is still difficult with my breathing, but other than that, “Life is Good”.

Moltz and Therrien had both gotten around long-time leader Scott Payea with less than 10 laps remaining in the 75-lap event following a lengthy battle. Therrien first poked his nose underneath Moltz with just two laps to go, but the Waterford, CT driver was able to fend off the initial challenge.

Sweet Repeat in Northfield Savings Bank 54th Vermont Milk Bowl

Barre, VT – Nick Sweet of Barre successfully defended his title in the Northfield Savings Bank Milk Bowl at Thunder Road, using a pair of wins in the three 50-lap segments to claim a two-point victory in the combined standings over Jason Corliss of Barre. It was the third Thunder Road Late Model Sportsmen Milk Bowl victory of Sweet’s career.

Corliss needed to finish within three positions of Sweet in the final race to earn the victory. He had a chance to move into fourth place, and claim the Milk Bowl crown, in the final laps of the third race, but couldn’t find his way through traffic and ended up in seventh place in the segment, and second place overall.

MacDonald on Top for Fifth Time at Bond Auto Parts ACT Invitational

MacDonald on Top for Fifth Time at Bond Auto Parts ACT Invitational

Eddie MacDonald reigned supreme once again at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 24, taking the lead from Jimmy Hebert with five laps to go in the Eighth Annual Auto Parts ACT Invitational en route to his fifth career victory in the event.

Rowley, MA’s MacDonald started 31st on the grid and was running third to Williamstown, VT’s Hebert and Hinesburg, VT’s Bobby Therrien when the event’s fourth caution came out for a four-car wreck in which both Aaron Fellows and Mark Jenison made hard contact with the turn one wall. Therrien got the jump on the initial restart, but the advantage was erased when Brian Tarbell spun in turn two, bringing the caution back out before a lap was completed and thus sending Hebert back to the point.
